Hurley is a softball coach for a county league, Core said, and the girl is a player on the team that he coaches. The team is not affiliated with any local schools, he said.
The text messages he sent to the teen included profanity and a shirtless photo, Core said. Hurley asked her what she thought of his body, he said. The girl told her mother about the messages and the mom decided to go to police, he said.
“She did exactly what she was supposed to do,” Core said of the teen’s actions.
More charges could follow for Hurley, he said, but more evidence will be needed. He believes that could be provided by searching Hurley’s cell phone. A search warrant for the phone has been requested, he said.
Hurley has bonded out of the Logan County Jail and a court date has been set for Sept. 27, Core said.
