“I think something like $5,000,” she replied.

While she regularly purchases scratch-off tickets, this was the first time she had purchased a Powerball, she said. “I really can’t tell you why I did it.”
She bought the ticket from Kroger, 2300 N. Limestone St., on Dec. 11. She used auto-lotto, which chose the winning numbers of 1-8-10-19-20. She did not match the Powerball number, which was 23.
Kroger received a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket — a second tier prizewinner.
The couple have already decided where the money will go.
“We’re getting close to retirement age so it’s all going to go in our retirement fund,” she said. “We really don’t have anything we need.”
