Local organization to give away 1,200 Christmas baskets to families in need

The Ohio St. Vincent de Paul Society is preparing to distribute 1,200 Christmas baskets to Clark County families in need.

As of Tuesday, 900 families have signed up to receive baskets, leaving many baskets left to distribute.

Clark County families can sign up for this program from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Friday or Saturday at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry at 228 Raffensperger Ave. in Springfield. You must have identification for all members of your household and proof of your address.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society also is looking for volunteers to help with the program. If you would like to volunteer you can go to the St. Joseph’s Parish Center gymnasium at 819 Kenton St. in Springfield.

Volunteers are needed on the following days:

Friday-(12/14/2018). 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monday-(12/17/2018) 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesday-(12/18/2018) 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wednesday-(12/19/2018) 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 4 to 8 p.m.

Thursday-(12/20/2018)- 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Distribution Day- Many people need assistance taking boxes to the cars.
