The event is to raise money to purchase specialized wheelchairs for athletes with disabilities and to raise awareness of sports available for individuals in wheelchairs.
The entry fee will be a donation.
Volleyball tourney at Emmanuel
On Saturday, April 23, a volleyball tournament will be held at Emmanuel Christian Academy and all proceeds will build the Hannah Christine Young Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Hannah Young died in a car accident on April 11, 2009. She was a senior at Emmanuel Christian Academy. A scholarship fund was established at the Springfield Foundation for graduating seniors from Emmanuel Christian Academy and Kenton Ridge High School in her memory.
The entry fee is $10 per person or $60 for a team of six. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and tournament at 9 a.m.
The event will feature two brackets: recreational and competitive. Awards will be given to the first, second, and third place teams in each bracket.
T-shirts and concessions will be available.

The Springfield Metropolitan Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Lincoln Park Community Center, meeting room #737, 1900 Huron Ave., Springfield.

The Tecumseh Local LPDC committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Special Education Conference Room of Tecumseh Middle School, 10000 W. National Road, New Carlisle.
5k race to be held Thursday at Reid Elementary
A 5k race will be held Thursday, April 21, at Reid Elementary School as part of a national running event sponsored by morning TV show LIVE! with Regis and Kelly. Ultramarathon runner, author and motivator Dean Karnazes is passing through Springfield Wednesday and Thursday as part of “Regis & Kelly’s Run Across America with Dean Karnazes.” It is a coast-to-coast challenge designed to inspire Americans to get up, get active and get healthy. Thursday’s run will begin at 9 a.m. at Clark-Shawnee’s Reid Elementary and Middle School, 3640 E. Ohio 41.
Interested runners can register by logging on to LiveRegisAndKelly.com and clicking on the “Run Across America” logo. A $50 donation to Action for Healthy Kids is required to run.
Karnazes began in southern California Feb. 25 and is running nearly 3,000 miles, averaging 40 to 50 miles daily.
