Shows scheduled at Opera House

The South Charleston Opera House Players will present the original works “Sure Is Hot” and “Hillbillies & Hipsters, A Love Story” on June 22 and 23 on the Opera House stage, 35 S. Chillicothe St.

The performances are the third annual installment of the Opera House Player’s Summer Stock Series, which focuses on younger actors and original plays.

The evening will begin with the one-act “Hillbillies & Hipsters, A Love Story” directed by Kim Breeze. The short comedy reveals beliefs once considered old are sometimes new again.

The two-act main show, “Sure is Hot” is set in a funky big city neighborhood suffering through the hottest August on record, and the power is out. Against this backdrop a young painter relocates to the city to further her artistic and personal journey while meeting the diverse and often comical group of residents on her block. The show is directed by David Edwards. Both shows were written by Edwards.

Tickets are $6 and are available at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with curtain rise at 8 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the South Charleston Heritage Commission.

The South Opera House Players are celebrating their 25th season. The group produces shows each spring and has recently added the Summer Stock Series to offer more opportunities for local performers. STAFF REPORT
