Fitness club grand opening

New Carlisle Sports & Fitness, formerly the Tecumseh Family YMCA at 524 N. Dayton-Lakeview Road, celebrates its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. The club will also give tours of the facility from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

After a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the club will offer fitness class demos, a Wii dance competition, boat races and more. There will be food and drinks as well.

Business hosts garage sale today

Dream Cup, a coffee shop at 1821 W. North St., will host a garage sale in its parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Vendors will sell clothing, golf equipment, Vera Bradley purses and more.

Dream Cup will also sell raffle tickets, and with the proceeds the business plans to purchase an animal at the Clark County Fair. STAFF REPORT

Rebert Pike closure planned

Rebert Pike will be closed between Hagan and South Tecumseh roads beginning Monday, according to the Clark County engineer’s office.

The road will be closed for a bridge replacement.

Youth tennis lessons on tap

The fourth session of the National Trail Parks and Recreation District’s youth tennis lessons will be at Wittenberg University’s Albright Tennis Complex July 9, 11 and 13.

The lessons will be taught by Wittenberg’s head tennis coach, Justin Stuckey, and are for ages 9 to 18.

Beginner lessons will be from 8 to 9 a.m. Intermediate lessons will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and advanced lessons from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Registration is $55 and should be done at the National Trail Parks and Recreation District building at 1301 Mitchell Blvd. STAFF REPORT

Proposed textbooks to be on display

A proposed textbook for high school social studies instruction in the Springfield City School District is on display for the public to review.

The book, “Criminal Justice in Action” (Wadsworth Cengage Learning), is on display from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays through Friday, excluding July 4, at the Clark Center, 1500 W. Jefferson St.

Visitors can review and comment on the proposed textbook.

A community meeting to discuss and answer questions about the textbook will start at 3 p.m. Friday in room 17 at the Clark Center.

Family liaison job may be cut

Northwestern Local Schools Board of Education members tabled a resolution to eliminate the district’s family liaison position.

“We want to consider the community’s input,” Superintendent Tony Orr said.

The resolution to suspend the contract of Mark Greenberg, elementary family liaison, through a reduction in force will be considered at the July meeting, Orr said. STAFF REPORT
