WASSO garden tour is July 14-15

The 19th Women’s Association of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (WASSO) Annual Garden Tour will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. July 14-15.

Tour locations include the Golden home, 840 W. Second St.; the Minnig home, 1222 Redbud Lane; the Berger home, 1701 Midvale; the Himes-Lucas home, 5181 Morris Road in Springfield, and the Thullen home, 4804 Graham St., in New Moorefield.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 day of the tour and are available in Springfield at the Springfield Symphony Office, Chandler House, Curves West, Frame Haven Gallery, Katie’s Hallmark, Heart of Country, Schneider’s Florist and in Urbana at Bill’s Enchanted Florist.

Save pennies to help CitiLookout

CitiLookout , a non-profit counseling center offering a safe haven to help people through emotional, relational and spiritual healing regardless of ability to pay, will host a Penny Party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 7 at the center located at 616 N. Limestone St.

According to the center, people are often overlooked just like pennies so they are holding a Penny Party to gather pennies to be able to come alongside people to help them with the opportunity to heal and grow.

The event will include music, penny games, penny candy, penny food, face painting and caricature drawings.

Proceeds will benefit CitiLookout.

Sign-ups for swim lessons at the Springfield Family YMCA are underway. Two sessions are available for the summer — a two week and a seven week.

The two-week session begins today and the seven-week session begins June 25.

CultureFest sets volunteer meeting

The CultureVolunteer Committee of CultureFest will meet at noon Tuesday at El Toro Restaurant on South Limestone Street to discuss the 16th annual festival.

The annual community celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 29.

There are many opportunities available. Volunteers are welcome to help with children and adult interactive activities teaching about culture, set up, tear down and general assistance during the festival.

Students in need of community service hours are encouraged to sign up. Those who volunteer at least two hours will receive a free CultureFest T-shirt.

Applications are being accepted for food, merchandise and educational booths through July 27.
