Reds reporter to speak at banquet
John Fay, the Cincinnati Reds reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer, will be the guest speaker for the Springfield/Clark County Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Jan. 7.
The banquet will be 7 p.m. at the UAW Local 402 Hall on Urbana Road. Four individuals and two teams will be inducted. Tickets are available at the National Trail Parks and Recreation Office, 1301 Mitchell Blvd., and Trophy Sports Center, 2030 North Limestone St.

Volunteers needed for tax program
The AARP Tax-Aide program provides free tax preparation and electronic filing services to Ohioans of all ages with low and moderate incomes. Volunteers are asked to contribute four hours a week for 10 weeks, from Feb. 1 to April 15. Those skilled in tax preparation are welcome, but the majority of volunteers are not tax experts. Volunteers need to have basic computer skills, patience, a willingness to learn and a desire to help others.
Volunteers are reimbursed for program-related mileage.

Handgun class set for Jan. 28-29
The Western Ohio Personal Safety/Firearm Training Group will offer a 12-hour course — meeting the training requirement for a concealed handgun license — from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 28 and noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, 120 N. Fountain Ave.
Admission is $90 per student or $75 each for two or more students registering together.
