“We tried to purchase things that our patrons circulate a lot,” said Allison Peck, public relations manager at Clark County Public Library.
According to Peck, the cost of purchasing these subscriptions was around $5,900, and the library potentially saved money compared to buying the physical print subscriptions.
The magazines can be accessed from anywhere, and you don’t have to be in the library to take advantage of the new service.
Peck stated that while the library doesn’t currently have tablets and e-readers in house for library patrons to use to read e-books and magazine, they are looking to have the devices in place in the future.
Library leaders think that the magazine service has an advantage over traditional e-book lending because there are no queues or wait times and multiple library patrons can view multiple copies of the same magazine.
“Hopefully everyone will try it out and want to come in and see the other services the library has to offer,” said Perkins.
All a person needs to access the service is an Internet connected device and a valid library card. Instructions on how to use the library card to sign up can be found on the library’s website at www.ccpl.lib.oh.us or by calling the library at 937-328-6903.
