Legend performs ‘Beauty and the Beast’ during Disney Family Singalong

John Legend, a Springfield native, and other celebrities helped bring the Disney magic to households on Sunday Night through ABC’s second Disney Family Singalong.

The singalong featured a duet  of “Beauty and the Beast” by Legend and Jennifer Hudson.

Legend sang while playing his piano. The piano featured an animation from the movie, “Beauty and the Beast.” Hudson accompanied him from her home in front of a staircase.

The Disney Family Singalong featured on-screen lyrics for families to follow.

Other celebrity performances featured Halsey, Shakira, Katy Perry, Miguel, Rebel Wilson, Derek Hough, Julianne Hough and Hayley Erbert.

The Disney special raised awareness about “Feeding America's vast network and resources for people in the country who are finding themselves in unfamiliar circumstances and facing hunger for the first time due to COVID-19,” according to ABC’s website.

Legend was born and raised in Springfield where he graduated from North High School as salutatorian of his class.

In 2016, Legend helped raise $500,000 to donate to the Springfield school district to renovate the auditorium that now bears his name.
