Hurricane Michael: October storm upgraded to Category 5

One of the strongest storms in United States history, Hurricane Michael, has been upgraded to a Category 5 storm.

Hurricane Michael struck the Florida panhandle on Oct. 10, 2018, and initially was determined to have winds of 155 mph.

The National Hurricane Center just determined wind speeds reached 160 mph, which would make it the first Category 5 storm to strike the U.S. since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Hurricane Michael is the fourth Category 5 storm to make landfall in the U.S.

The storm was responsible for 16 deaths and as much as $25 billion in damages.
