Christmas trees are biodegradable and can be recycled for mulch and other purposes. Artificial Christmas trees are not recyclable.
The Clark County Solid Waste District’s West Recycling Station, 1620 West Main St. in Springfield, has two bins for small-cut trees and yard waste items.
“(Residents) should make sure all of the lights have been removed from the tree and all ornaments, tinsel, or non-natural items,” Bonnie Martens, program manager at Clark County Solid Waste District said.

She added that residents should remove the plastic bag used for transportation before putting the tree in the bin.
The bins are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
Martens said the bins were full the day after Christmas, but are emptied regularly. If the bins are full, call 937-521-2020.
“Please do come back a second time, do not leave the items on the ground - that is considered illegal dumping,” Martens said.
The Clark County Solid Waste District disposes the trees and yard waste to C&S Tree Service, 2551 Dayton Road in Springfield.
C&S Tree Service grinds the contents to make mulch, Tracey Mount, a receptionist at C&S Tree Service said.
Residents can also take their Christmas trees directly to C&S Tree Service. They are open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 937-323-4273.
