Fourth of July celebrations will look a lot different this year as several events within Clark and Champaign counties have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, a few cities are still putting on their fireworks shows.

“We have to figure out a way to make some of these things work - if we can do them safely,” Village of Enon Mayor Tim Howard said.

Below is a list of fireworks shows still happening:

Enon

The Village of Enon will have a fireworks show, coordinated by the Enon VFW 8437, at dusk on Friday, July 3.

Prior to the show, there will be food trucks, kids games, raffles and prizes at the VFW, located at 5075 Enon-Xenia Road, starting at 4 p.m.

The Village of Enon donated $2,500 towards the purchase of the fireworks, Howard explained. He said that Enon’s council unanimously approved the donation because “it’s a really nice community event.”

“I think if people practice the distancing and use some common sense, it will go just fine,” Howard said.

Urbana

The Urbana fireworks show at the Grimes Field Airport, 1636 N. Main St. will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.

The Urbana Rotary Club sponsored the fireworks with the help of community supporters who underwrote the costs.

The gates to get inside the airport grounds will be closed this year.

“If people want to go out to the airport to watch the fireworks they are welcome to, but they will need to basically park their cars off of 68 in a socially distanced, safe manner,” President of the Urbana Rotary Club Paul Waldsmith said.
