Some Enon residents have been displaced after high levels of mercury were found in their home on Marion Drive.

The residents were cleaning out their garage on April 13 and discovered a mercury spill and called authorities, according to Dina Pierce, spokeswoman for the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

The state agency responded to the home and took readings, which indicated there were dangerously high levels of mercury in the home.

Pierce said there is no risk to the neighborhood. State EPA workers secured the property and the residents are temporarily displaced now as the U.S. EPA has taken over the remediation efforts.

Witnesses tell this newsroom workers were on the property Monday evening hauling items out of the home.

We’re working to gather more details.
