As the victim of last week’s West Liberty-Salem school shooting recovers, the family’s pastor is advising the public multiple fundraising pages have been organized in the name of the victim.

Bill Walker, Pastor at the Quest Community Church in West Liberty, said the family of 16-year-old Logan Cole has requested privacy, but has reminded people if they intend to donate, make sure they know where the money is going.

Two GoFundMe pages have been created, one created by Cole's father, the other claiming to be created 'on behalf of' the Cole family.

“The other one was not setup by the Cole family, and was done so without their permission,” Walker said.

The family-authorized page lists the recipients of the funds as Logan, the school, and the family of the accused shooter. Walker said including the family of the accused shooter is no mistake, and shows the true character of the family.

“People talk about how time heals all wounds, and I think time takes the edge off wounds, but I think it’s God, it's Christ who heals all wounds, and that's who people are turning to."

A sibling of the accused shooter, 17-year-old Ely Serna, still attends the school, and the school district said Tuesday they are doing what they can to make sure she receives support and isn’t singled out.

Cole remains in stable condition in a Columbus hospital, but could require surgery for a shotgun pellet lodged in his heart.

“Luckily, we're not planning a funeral, you know that's the blessing, that Logan's going to be okay. You know he's got a long road ahead of him, but he's still with us and we just praise God for that,” Walker said.
