Enon summer full of events

Since Enon does such a good job with the Apple Butter Festival every fall, it only seems logical that the community wants to build on that success with some new events at different times of the year.

Organizers of the second annual Enon Pizza Fest are ready to build on last year’s idea and make Pizza Fest a regular part of the calendar. So mark June 18 on your calendars and come hungry. The event begins at 3 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m.

Enon Administrative Assistant Kristy Thome has contacted all the local pizzerias.

“We have three confirmed, but are hoping to have up to seven different restaurants participating,” Thome said.

Current competitors are ( in alphabetical order): Bada Bing, Dominoes and Slice of Heaven, which is now located where Fox’s Pizza used to be.

Interested local pizza makers who have been missed or who forgot to reply to the invitation may still find space by calling Thome or Chief Lew Wilcox at the Enon Government Offices.

Those attending the event will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite pepperoni, deluxe, cheese and gourmet pizzas. In order to vote, a person must vote personally at the voting booth, purchase a piece of pizza, and have a piece of the pizza in hand. Prizes and bragging rights will be awarded to the best of each type of pizza.

There will be more than pizza at the event. The VFW will have a beer and wine cooler tent with any proceeds going toward paying for the Fourth of July fireworks. Those who purchase alcohol must have proper ID and stay in the tent while drinking.

The Enon Police will have water and pop for sale. They hope to raise money for the Shop with a Cop program just before Christmas.

Three bands will perform for two hours each: Gin Soaked Angels, Element Earth and Old Friends Band.

Pizza Fest will be held in the same area as the Apple Butter Festival around the Enon Elementary School near the gazebo in Settlers Park.

While you have your calendar out and a pen in your hand, take time to mark these other Enon events on the calendar. Summer goes fast and you won’t want to miss any of these.

During the summer, a Farmer’s Market will be held on Thursday afternoons from 4 to 7 p.m. This is also located by the gazebo.

The annual summer blood drive will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Enon Government Center. Call 937-864-7870 to confirm times.

The Enon-George Rogers Clark Memorial VFW will present fireworks on July 3 at dusk.

The Fourth of July Parade will be at 1 p.m. July 4 and will be sponsored by the Enon Fire Department.

National Night Out will be observed on Aug. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A car show with food trucks will be at Settler’s Park on Aug. 27.

Fair at New Boston will be Sept. 3 and 4 at George Rogers Clark Park.

The Apple Butter Festival will be on Oct. 8 and 9 and will be sponsored by the Enon Community Historical Society.
