Enon PTO staging adult prom

Proms are watershed events in our high school careers.

We adults remember them as being dreams come true, nightmares to be forgotten, or something we avoided like the plague. If we participated, we planned the decorations for months and they made the gym look amazing.

It doesn’t matter if a person went with their crush, a group of good friends, or their cousin, whatever our memories, most of us agree that proms were unforgettable.

How many of us wish we could go back to prom again, but this time as an adult with the love of our life or a crazy fun friend?

It is that thought that spurred the Enon PTOs upcoming benefit event, Knight to Shine Adult Prom. Proceeds benefit the Enon Primary PTO and support activities at Enon Primary School.

The dance begins at 8 p.m. Friday night May 3, at the Enon VFW, 5075 Enon Xenia Road. Guests must be 21 years or older and are encouraged to “dress to impress” in either “funky or formal” fashion.

The organizers didn’t know if anyone was planning or wearing their own high school prom attire or borrowing a dress from one of their own teens. It would be great if someone did. Whatever they choose, I’m sure everyone will look marvelous.

The admission ticket, $20 presale or $25 at the door, includes draft beer, and appetizers and desserts. A cash bar will also be available.

Dates will be invited to dance to DJ music by Nick Gill, who probably has all those prom favorites from years gone by. There will even be a photo booth to record the event for posterity.

According to organizers this is the first time they have held this event, and they are encouraged by all the enthusiasm.

“We are looking forward to hosting a fun night out for parents to have a great time and support our school,” said Megan Anthony Enon PTO President.

“It’s been so much fun seeing the parents really get into it - looking for prom dresses, “proposals” from husbands to their wives, and remembering the best parts of our own proms as we plan for a great event. We hope to see lots of adults out ready to have a great time, win amazing raffle prizes donated by our generous donors, and support the community by raising money for our school.”

A variety of corporations, community businesses and organizations have donated prizes for raffles, drawings, and door prizes. The biggest prize is accommodations for a 7-day stay at a resort, really. Those raffle baskets also look rather tempting on the PTO Facebook page.

To add to the fun on the night of prom a 50/50 drawing will also be held.

“We’ll be selling pre-sale tickets at Enon Primary from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the library on Thursday, May 2, for pre-sale price of $20 or they can be purchased at the door ( Friday, May 3) for $25” said Anthony.

The dance is over at 11 p.m. And then, as the organizers told me, there will be no curfews, just babysitters to relieve.
