SUV strikes semitrailer, guardrail, passenger ejected after crash on I-70 East

A passenger was ejected from an SUV Saturday morning after the vehicle lost control and struck a semi truck on Interstate 70 East, Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Tim Burham said.

The SUV reportedly struck the semi truck before hitting a guardrail, ejecting the passenger who was not wearing a seat belt.

Burham said the SUV was traveling at unsafe speeds for the weather.

“With this kind of weather and the freezing rain, you have to slow down, give yourself plenty of distance,” he said.

Burham also encouraged safety belt usage, even when sitting in the back of a vehicle.

“Make sure you have your safety belt on, this could have been avoided,” he said. “He was taken to the hospital because he wasn’t.”

Both drivers were not injured and the passenger was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
