Der Dutchman sister store to sell everything

WAYNESVILLE — The owners of Der Dutchman restaurant are selling everything at Carlisle Gifts and Furniture at steep discounts for the rest of the month.

All items at Carlisle Gifts and Furniture, located at 188 N. U.S. 42, will be sold by the end of the year, according to store owners Dutchman Hospitality.

Between now and Saturday, all goods will be marked at 30 percent off, with additional discounts on seasonal items. From Dec. 20 through Dec. 23, the discounts increase to 40 percent and climb to 50 percent starting Christmas Eve through the store’s closing on Dec. 31.

Fixtures and shelving also are being sold.

Dutchman Hospitality Group, the owners of Der Dutchman since 1999, announced recently they would not reopen the restaurant and would close the neighboring Carlisle Gifts store, following an Oct. 13 kitchen fire that caused an estimated $1.5 million in damage to the structure.

The fire, which reportedly was started by a malfunctioning chicken roaster, broke out while patrons were eating breakfast. Witnesses reported seeing flames shooting 50 feet into the air. Approximately 50 people were in the restaurant at the time of the fire, but all escaped without injury.

Carlisle Gifts and Furniture is located at the sight of the original Der Dutchler restaurant, which opened in 1987 and moved to a larger facility in 1991.
