“We’re just not ready at this time,” Catanzaro said. “We still have interest and plan on purchasing (the property). I met with them (county commissioners) the other day and told them there’s no reason to rush.”
Catanzaro said trustees hope to purchase the property before the end of the year.
County commissioners pulled a resolution to sell the land to the township during Wednesday’s regular weekly meeting.
Administrator Nathan Kennedy said commissioners may discuss the future of the property at their next meeting.
The property is currently used by the utilities department and engineer’s office for storage of construction material.
Commissioners have said after they found a buyer they would look to purchase between three to five acres of new property in the county for the departments to use. However, officials said recently they want an option to lease the property for one to five years while they search for a new location.
County Commissioner John Detrick proposed in April placing the property for sale, estimating the county could receive $20,000 to $25,000 in the deal.
The property is rarely used by the Clark County Utilities Department, and Clark County Engineer Johnathan Burr has said his department could use a bigger site as the current location can be difficult for large trucks to navigate.
In addition, Detrick said the property could be prime for development because there are apartments and condominiums across the street, and water and sewer is already available.
Detrick has said the property does not have to be made available for public bid if it is sold to another government entity such as Mad River Twp.
“If they didn’t want it, it would then go open for bid to anybody interested from the private sector,” Detrick has said.
Proceeds of the sale would go to the utilities department, which used utility user fees to purchase the site, Kennedy has said.
