Coronavirus: 5 things Clark, Champaign residents need to know today

Here are five things Clark and Champaign residents need to know about COVID-19, or coronavirus today.

1. Clark County has its first confirmed case of COVID-19 at a nursing home, according to the Clark County Combined Health District. Southbrook Care Center in Springfield confirmed the case on Tuesday. Clark County had 28 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and no deaths, as of Wednesday afternoon.

2. The Board of Clark County Commissioners has been awarded a $56,000 state grant to provide services to the homeless during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant's funding, which was secured by the Clark County Community and Economic Development department, will be used for shelter operations, including staff support, supplies, motel/hotel vouchers or other housing options used to reduce shelter concentration and create greater physical distance between residents.

3. A Greenon High School senior created a tribute video for her classmates to look back at the memories they have made during their high school career. During the 12 minute video, students describe what the class of 2020 has experienced, and it also highlights photos and videos submitted by students and words of motivation from some of their teachers.

4. The Northeastern Local School District has postponed a groundbreaking for its new schools after Gov. Mike DeWine announced schools would remain closed for the rest of the academic year. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new prek- 12 schools, originally scheduled for May 15, has been postponed to the fall at a date yet to be determined.

5. A Yellow Springs man is the third Greene County person to die due to complications from COVID-19, according to county officials. Matthew Huntington, 50, a 1988 Yellow Springs High School graduate who enjoyed playing music and ran track as a young boy, died Sunday.
