Completion of Urbana roundabout delayed

The completion for the construction project on Urbana’s Monument Square roundabout that restarted in the beginning of May has been delayed, according to a city official.

The nearly $1.8 million contract for the work was extended for completion by the end of May, but has now been delayed to a later date in June.

“The contractor has indicated that the project will now not be completed until this month due to rainy weather and other factors beyond the city’s control,” said Tyler Bumbalough, City Engineer.

RB Jergens Contractors, Inc. and its subcontractors restarted construction on May 19 and 20.

“During these work days, the contractor was able to complete the milling of the existing asphalt surfaces and the pavement repair of deteriorated areas on South Main Street, Miami Street and within the parking areas of Monument Square,” said Bumbalough.

Bumbalough said once the contractor restarts, they will be completing the remaining work items that were carried over from last fall, including the final resurfacing on the project.

Northeastern to change grade levels to accommodate construction

The remaining work items on the project include final surface asphalt paving, repairs to the asphalt on Scioto and North Main streets, permanent striping of roadway markings, parking lines and crosswalks, manhole adjustment, and water valve adjustment.

The contractor will post no parking signs within the planned work areas, and a detour will be in place as daytime road closures will also be required.
