Community Mercy Health parent company honored

SPRINGFIELD — Catholic Healthcare Partners, the parent corporation of Community Mercy Health Partners, has been named one of the top 10 hospital systems in the U.S. by Thomson Reuters.

The annual, quantitative study uses independent research of public data to determine the top 10 health systems which set the highest benchmarks in the areas of clinical quality and efficiency. This is Catholic Healthcare Partners second consecutive year to make the top 10.

“This national recognition reaffirms on a local level that Community Mercy Health Partners as a whole provides quality care daily to our patients and residents at all our facilities throughout our region,” said Community Mercy President and CEO Mark Wiener.

The winners outperformed their peers by providing better care, following standards of care more closely, saving more lives, creating fewer patient complications, making fewer patient safety errors and earning better overall patient satisfaction scores, according to the announcement made by Thomson Reuters.

They had 12.3 percent fewer mortalities, 13.2 percent fewer complications and 5.4 better patient safety than their peers. Patients’ average length of stay was more than half-a-day shorter than at similar systems with better longer-term outcomes.

“One of the benefits of being part of a system like CHP is the ability to share best practices among our hospitals,” Wiener said. “Locally, we see another huge benefit every day as we watch the new hospital being built. Without CHP’s commitment, that wouldn’t have been possible.”

Other Ohio hospitals in the top 10 included Kettering Health Network, OhioHealth in Columbus and University Hospitals in Cleveland.
