The 17th annual Larry K. Zerkle Excellence in Education honors, hosted by the Clark County Educational Service Center, were held Monday and allowed local valedictorian and salutatorians to honor the teacher that had the greatest impact on their educational experience. Local business community honors students

The business community of Springfield, represented by the Business Advisory Council of the Springfield City School District, honored a group of students May 12 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. Dr. Richard Nedelman, a North High School 1978 graduate, was the keynote speaker.

Imani Dixon, Donna Hill, Sherri Overton and Riley Whittaker each received a $500 scholarship award for higher education.

Locals earn Wright State scholarships

Wright State University Alumni Association announces Legacy Scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year. Local recipients include: Jedidiah Tritle of Springfield; Stephanie Adams, Daniel Baker, Hannah Bicknell, Michelle Shreck of New Carlisle and James Trame and Kimberly Trame, of Cedarville.

Teachers honored by Coca-Cola foundation

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation named 10 teachers from Ohio as Educators of Distinction for the 2009-10 school year. The award recognizes outstanding teachers dedicated to providing education with an enhanced purpose.

Linda Bodey of Springfield High School was nominated by David Fish.

Bodey received a certificate from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation inscribed with a personal dedication written by David Fish, the 2010 Coca-Cola Scholar who nominated her.

• Jerry R. Lykins of Springfield graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Wright State University.

• Jenna Smith of Cedarville, was named to the spring’s dean’s list at Cedarville University.

• Claire Trempe of Springfield was named to the spring dean’s list at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business.

• Brittney Nicole Perkins and Jillian Frances of Springfield were named to the spring dean’s list at Anderson University.

• Andrew Bingman of South Charleston, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree from Tulane University.
