Child rapist eligible for parole in 10 years

SPRINGFIELD — A man accused of sexually abusing a 5-year-old was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Andrew G. Wild, 28, of Woodstock, pleaded no contest to a charge of rape, said his Columbus-based attorney, Steve Palmer.

“The case was contested all the way through, but the risk and consequences of trial were too great,” Palmer said.

Wild is eligible for parole after 10 years, Palmer said.

During the investigation, officials found graphic images of the child on Wild’s computer, according to court documents.

Wild, a former computer design engineer, had originally been charged with rape, gross sexual imposition and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, according to court documents.

The two latter charges were dropped as part of the plea deal, Palmer said.

If Wild is paroled, he will be categorized a Tier III sex offender, and required to register with law enforcement every 90 days for life, said Lt. Eric Holmes, Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

“Tier III is the most serious,” said Holmes.

Wild has been on electronic monitoring since his arrest last year and was taken to the Clark County Jail after sentencing Tuesday.

Clark County Assistant Prosecutor Andy Wilson said he was satisfied with the outcome.

“We were able to get a conviction on the highest charge with a mandatory life sentence,” Wilson said. “And we didn’t have to put a 6-year-old child on the stand.”
