Bethel Twp. fire causes $70K in damage

A fire that damaged a Bethel Twp. home Wednesday morning started in a car in the home’s driveway then spread to the house.

Emergency crews responded to the 400 block of Caldwell Circle in the Park Layne subdivision around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday. The homeowner said he arrived home in the morning and went outside about 20 minutes later when he found the car on fire.

The fire then spread to the garage area of the house before moving to the attic and burning through the roof.

The house sustained an estimated $70,000 in damages.

Officials said it’s unknown what caused the fire to start in the car’s engine compartment.
