Benjamin Steel’s Wellness Works program has been in place for two years and offers opportunities for employees to earn points for prizes and discounts on weekly health insurance premiums. As a result of the program, officials say healthcare costs have decreased more than 12 percent since the Wellness Works’ inception.
“We have this great wellness program and we try to develop it so that it appeals to everyone,” said Amanda Kincaid, Benjamin Steel Vice President of Human Relations. “We also try to take the opportunity to partner with people in the community to participate.”
That’s where the Humane Society comes in. Benjamin Steel employees were asked to bring in donations of cash or items to qualify to walk the four-legged visitors for points.
In addition, proceeds from the sale of $1 hot dogs went to the Humane Society.
More than 300 pounds of dog food, 50 pounds of cat food, $150 cash, cleaning supplies, towels, leashes and collars were collected, Kincaid said.
Humane Society Executive Director Jimmy Straley said the program was a success.
“It went great,” he said. “And we hope to get an adoption or two.”
About 25 employees participated Thursday and employee Bev Poling called the event a win-win.
“The Humane Society gets some needed support and our employees and the dogs get out for some exercise,” Poling said. “Who knows, we might even get some new canine members to our Benjamin Family.”
