The 17-year-old male who was shot on West Xenia Street Monday is in stable condition at Miami Valley Hospital.
Tyree said investigators have talked briefly with the victim but are giving him time to recover.
The police department has received multiple leads as to who the three unknown persons are who invaded the home and what their motives might have been.
Tyree said it wasn’t a random act of violence and they are working to narrow down the names of possible suspects.
“This home was targeted. Right now we’re looking for three suspects that was reportedly involved in this that fled the scene,” Tyree said.
Violent crime is rare in the rural village of Jamestown, which has a population of around 2,000 people, according to the 2010 Census.
“The last (shooting) we had was approximately five years ago in the East Xenia Street area. It was a very similar circumstance — Young people arguing, fighting and there were some shots exchanged,” Tyree said.

Jamestown police and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office are seeking three young men who allegedly broke into a home in the village and shot a teenager who found them there.
A 17-year-old male was taken by CareFlight from the scene on West Xenia Street, where he suffered a gunshot shortly after 6 a.m. Monday, according to Jamestown police.

He had surgery at Miami Valley Hospital and was in stable condition Monday afternoon, police said.
Officers responded after a 911 call from a woman who lives near where the shooting occurred.
“I heard this great big kaboom and this kid’s laying on the ground. Said he got shot,” the caller told the dispatcher.
The victim was visiting the home and found three men inside. When they fled the home, one turned and fired a shot, striking the victim in the leg near the groin, according to Jamestown Police Chief Rodger Tyree.
Tyree said the home invasion was not random, and that nearby residents do not need to be worried for their safety.
“The resident that lives here advised that he was in the home last night with his girlfriend and young child. He woke up with three individuals in his bedroom. One was threatening with a firearm,” Tyree said.
A motive had not been established Monday morning, Tyree said.
The three home invaders were reported as young white males, according to Tyree, who said more information will be released when they’ve been identified.

News of the violence came as a shock to Jamestown residents like 74-year-old Keith Cavender, who grew up in the small village in eastern Greene County. Cavender said violent crimes are “far and few between” in Jamestown.
“You don’t know your neighbors like you used to,” he said.
