TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man won $100,000 from an Ohio Lottery instant game, but it wasn’t the first time he’s had success with scratch-offs.

Billy R. Daniels, who lives in the small village southwest of Urbana, will receive a check for $69,000 after state and federal taxes, according to lottery officials. He purchased the ticket from the Terre Haute Mall, 5834 Ohio 55, a small store that sells pizzas, grocery items and lottery tickets, among other items.

Daniels declined to comment on winning the prize, but those who work at the store said he’s a regular who sometimes stops by as many as two or three times a day to chat or grab a cup of coffee.

“We call him Uncle Bill cause he comes in so much,” said Jordan Laughman, whose family owns the business.

Laughman said it’s also not the first time Daniels bought a winning ticket from the business. In August last year, he also won a $25,000 prize with another ticket.

“He’s just lucky, I guess,” Laughman said.

The store also sold a $1,000 ticket last October, although Daniels was not the winner in that case. She said Daniels plays the lottery on many of his visits.

According to information from the Ohio Lottery, the store will also receive a $1,000 bonus for selling a top prize winning ticket.
