Smith is new Green Twp. fiscal officer

Clark State grad has been township resident since 1994.

Trustees in Green Twp. recently appointed a new fiscal officer who will also run for the seat in November.

Nicole C. Smith, a long-time Green Twp. resident, was recently sworn in to serve as the township’s fiscal officer. She replaces Sharon A. Waddle, who resigned effective March 31.

Waddle’s four-year term ends April 1, 2016. Smith was appointed to finish that term, and said she will run for a new four-year term in November’s general election. That term would begin April 1, 2016.

Smith graduated from Clark State Community College in 1993 with an associate’s degree in applied business accounting. She has owned Smith’s Bookkeeping and Payroll since 2004 and is a bookkeeper for several businesses, according to her resume.

She has also held positions as an accounting clerk and accounting manager for businesses in Springfield and Xenia.

Smith said she applied for the township fiscal officer position because she wanted to expand into government.

“I’m looking forward to serving the community,” Smith said.

Smith, 42, will earn about $16,000 annually, said Green Twp. Trustee Allen Armstrong.

She was among six applicants for the job, he added.

Armstrong said trustees unanimously selected Smith because she was the best fit.

“It was a tough decision. We did deliberate for quite a while. But in the end, there was one that we thought was a better fit,” he said.

Armstrong said Smith does not have any government experience, but appears to be a “fast learner.”

Smith has been a Green Twp. resident since 1994 and is active in the community.

“She’s already hit the ground running … She seems very enthusiastic and eager to serve the citizens of Green Twp.,” Armstrong said.

Smith is married and has three children.
