The Springfield City School District released a video Tuesday giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look of when John Legend came back to Springfield to open the theater named in his honor.
The video features Legend talking about the theater and shows him walking around the renovated facility at the former South High School, now the Springfield Center for Innovation: The Dome.
He attended the theater’s re-opening and dedication Sunday. He helped raise $500,000 for the school district’s project.
Legend sang a selection of songs during a performance to open the theater, including his hits “All of Me,” “Love Me Now” and “Save Room For My Love.”
“I have so many fond memories of growing up here,” said Legend, a Springfield North High School graduate and Oscar and 10-time Grammy winner, told the crowd at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
