An Urbana fifth-grade teacher who was barred from the school’s campus last month following his arrest on a probation violation has resigned.

Tyler Wisse, 29, of Urbana, signed a resignation agreement with the Urbana City School District on Monday afternoon, according to Superintendent Charles Thiel.

Parties included in the resignation agreement are Wisse, the Urbana Association of Classroom Teachers, the OEA/NEA and the Urbana City School District Board of Education.

“By executing this agreement, Mr. Wisse voluntarily resigns all employment with the Board effective at the end of the work day on September, 30, 2019. The Board agrees to accept Mr. Wisse’s resignation,” the agreement states.

The Springfield News-Sun reached out to Wisse about this story. He said he had no comment.

Wisse was arrested on Sept. 5 after a Madison County judge issued a warrant accusing him of violating probation following his June conviction for a misdemeanor OVI charge.

According to Tri County Regional Jail records, Wisse was an inmate from Thursday, Sept. 5 until Monday, Sept. 16 as a result of the arrest.

Madison County Municipal Court records show Wisse was charged Feb. 19 for an OVI for which he was convicted on June 3. As a result of the charge, an ignition interlock, or a device that requires motorists to prove they are sober before the car starts, was required to be installed in his vehicle.

In addition, Wisse was also order to report to probation for two years and pay fines and court costs.

The Madison County Municipal Clerk of Court said previously information is “confidential” regarding the accusations against Wisse and why he was arrested for allegedly violating his probation.

According to the resignation agreement, Wisse agreed he would not be eligible for any severance pay, but would be paid for each work day up to and including Sept. 30.

“Except for eight work days for which he will be docked pay because he was unavailable to work,” the agreement states.

Wisse never returned to the classroom after his arrest. Prior to Wisse’s resignation, Urbana’s staff directory on their website listed Wisse as a fifth-grade math teacher.

Thiel said last month the district had contacted Wisse and notified him that he was not to be on school grounds until the district held an investigatory hearing, which took place on Sept. 20.
