Data collected by that office shows that 498 ballots were casts in-person during that day in 2016 and 4,963 absentee voting ballots were sent.
However, Amber Lopez, the deputy director for the local BOE, said that nearly 1,000 in-person ballots have been cast so far for the general election this year and her office has sent out 19,431 absentee voting ballots by mail.
Data posted on the Board of Elections’ website showed that 834 votes were cast on Tuesday before 4 p.m.
Lopez said her office has received an uptick in absentee voting for this year’s November election. She said her office had 23,134 ballots during the entirety of the general election in 2016.
Election officials in Clark County expected a high turn out on Tuesday. At one point that morning, the line for voting stretched out the front door of the center and down the road about a block to the neighboring railroad tracks, the News-Sun reported.
