“We will be accepting all unused and unwanted medications. This year all pill form medications can be kept in the bottles as the bottles will also be destroyed. The only thing that is not accepted is syringes and liquid medications,” the sheriff’s office stated.
The sheriff’s office stated that community members bringing medications can drive up to the parking lot and hand the medications to the deputies and staff at the locations.
Community members participating at these locations will also be offered a free drug disposal kit to use at home for other unwanted pills or liquid medications.
“This is a great opportunity to easily dispose of any and all unwanted and un used medications in a safe way,” the sheriff’s office stated. “We do expect this take back day to be busy since the one in the spring was canceled. You will be able to stay in your vehicle while waiting to drop off medications to allow for social distancing from others."
These will be the only two locations in Clark County as the City of Springfield does not have their own event planned.
“We do not have an official Drug Take Back Day planned. However, we do have a drop box for excess medications at the Springfield Police Division, in front of the information window for easy public access,” said Valerie Lough, the city’s Community Information Coordinator.
County officials will also distribute free face coverings at the event.
