Fatal motorcycle crash in Logan County

A fatal crash occurred earlier Saturday, June 30 at 5:15 p.m. on State Route 117 near State Route 336 in McArthur Twp., according to a release.

Troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with Huntsville Fire and Ems, responded to the crash.

A 2005 Honda VTX1300C motorcycle, operated by Charles Stockton, age 62 of Columbus, was traveling northbound on St. Rt. 117 and a 2012 Chrysler 200, operated by Shawn Shelton, age 56 of Grove City, was traveling southbound on St. Rt. 117, when Shelton drove left of center and struck Stockton head on and ejecting him from his motorcycle.

Stockton--who was not using safety equipment--was pronounced dead at the scene, and Shelton--who was wearing a safety belt--was transported to the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine with minor injuries.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor of the crash that’s still being investigated.
