Tiger’s love takes a backseat

For those of us who spend many of our waking moments worrying if Tiger Woods ever will find true love and/or win another Masters, here’s reason for hope:

According to Internet sources, Tiger’s current girlfriend, Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, accompanied him to his daughter’s baseball game last weekend. But she remained in the backseat of his car during the game rather than risk a confrontation with Tiger’s ex-wife, who has a history of becoming upset by his search for true love. Such as when he sought it several nights during his Cocktail Waitresses Across America Tour.

As one website’s headline declared,“That’s devotion! Lindsey Vonn waits in new boyfriend Tiger Wood’s car for ONE hour to avoid run in with golfer’s ex-wife Elin Nordegren at children’s baseball game.”

The account of Lindsey’s obvious devotion appeared on several online sites, although details differed.

Two sites reported that Lindsey stayed in the car while Tiger attended his daughter's soccer game, but photos showed 5-year-old Samantha wearing a batting helmet and carrying what appeared to be a bag of bats. I don't keep up with soccer, though; maybe they're using bats these days in an attempt to make the game less boring.

None of the sites detailed how they knew Lindsey was in the backseat, such as citing sources who actually had seen her. But one did show three photos of Tiger opening the door of his black Mercedes, which should be more than enough proof for its readers.

The story didn’t explain why Lindsey couldn’t wait in the front seat. Or why a woman with enough courage to ski down icy hills at a thousand miles an hour would be afraid of confronation with Elin. But maybe she’s seen all those photos of what Tiger’s ex can do with a golf club.

One site reported that Elin is dating a billionaire who owns a yacht so large that it includes two formal dining rooms and a swimming pool, which makes me wonder why she would care if Tiger stuck his girlfriend in the backseat or merely tied her to the top of the car and drove to Canada.

And while I may make a small wager on Tiger’s chances in the Masters, I probably shouldn’t risk any money on whether he’s found true love with Lindsey. Because one site reporting her devotion also carried a link to another story headlined, “Tiger Woods to remarry Elin Nordegren?”

So it’s possible that before this column gets into print there will be reports that Tiger and Lindsey have split and now he’s dating the entire cast of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

Which raises the question of whether they all would fit in the backseat of his Mercedes.
