How to make Easter Bunny Cake Pops

Supplies:

Pink candy melts

White candy melts

Jumbo heart sprinkles

Pastel confetti sprinkles

Pink, blue & black edible ink pens

Paper lollipop sticks

Styrofoam block

Paramount crystals

Pastel candy corn

Cake mix Icing

Instructions:

1. Bake a cake. Once completely cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl. Mix thoroughly (using fingers or a large spoon) with one can of frosting.

2. Shape the mixture into a bunny head shape. Place on wax paper.

3. Dip tip of lollipop stick in melted chocolate/candy coating and insert a little less than halfway into the cake ball. Place in the freezer to allow cake balls to firm.

4. Dip in melted chocolate/candy coating color of your choice and let dry. (Tip, use a bowl deep enough to submerge entire pop in one quick dunking motion). Once covered, remove and softly tap and rotate until excess coating falls off.

5. Place in a styrofoam block.

6. Use the rounded side of a cookie cutter and cut of the end of the candy corn. Dip the end in a little bit of the melted candy coating and adhere it to the top of the bunny head. Hold in place until it sets. If your candy coating isn’t too hot, this should just take a few seconds.

7. Let the bunny heads with ears sit in the styrofoam block until all the ears are dry.

8. When dry, use a little bit of melted candy coating to glue the facial features on. Use a toothpick and dab a little of the coating in position for the eyes and nose, and adhere the sprinkles.

9. When the eyes and noses are dry, use your pens to draw on the mouth. Then draw on the eye color and pupils.

Courtney Graham of Kettering enrolled in her first baking class, inspired by her love for her sister. Graham, who had never baked a cake in her life before her first session at Michael’s, wanted to learn how to make and decorate cakes so she could make treats for her sister’s baby shower.

Now, Graham is hooked on a delicious hobby and is creating cake pops inspired by Bakerella.com.

“I found the Bakerella Website by chance. I think I was looking for ideas for cakes I was going to do and came across the site, and I am so happy that I did,” Graham said. “They are beautiful, but the best thing is how they taste.”

These cupcake pops, or cake pops, are the creation of Angie Dudley, aka Bakerella.

Cake pops are balls of cake mixed with icing, manipulated into different shapes, dipped into candy coating and then decorated. Add a stick and the cake balls turn into cake pops.

Bakerella.com and Dudley’s book” Cake Pops: Tips, Tricks, and Recipes for More Than 40 Irresistible Mini Treats,” boasts instructions and pictures of adorable baking creations from clowns to animals to holiday-themed treats.

Easter and spring-inspired cake pops include Pastel Bunny Pops, Confetti Easter Eggs, Spring Fling and Easter Baskets.

“I’m looking forward to making the Spring Chicks for Easter, which is on the Bakerella site,” Graham said.

“You can do Easter eggs, which aren’t on the site, by instead of making a ball shape, form cake into egg shape, use a couple of pastel-color candy coatings and put in Easter basket with grass. You won’t have to decorate at all.”

Graham has perfected Christmas tree cake pops and sports balls, which she shared at her cousin’s son’s birthday party.

“I enjoy bringing them to parties. They are still unexpected, and everyone enjoys them,” Graham said.

Graham, who is expecting, is hoping to continue to create cake pops for her child’s birthday parties as well as for her nieces and nephews.
