Crappies are being caught in about 20 feet of water, many at about 15 feet down, mostly on minnows. Anglers are trolling around the island or jigging on the flats to catch saugeyes. Some are drifting with crawler harnesses. White bass are hitting shiny spinners and spoons in the creeks.
Rocky Fork:
The lake is about two feet low, which has made dock fishing difficult. Crappies have been biting around docks about five feet deep. Bluegills are still hitting waxworms in the coves. Look for jumps and cast a small spinner or spoon to catch white bass. Largemouth bass are still hitting crankbaits along the banks. Fisherman’s Wharf has been a good spot.
Paint Creek Lake:
Crappie fishing continues to be good, but not many anglers are visiting the lake. The lake is seven feet low and only the marina ramp is in use. Work the creek channel banks around rocks to catch crappies on minnows. A few saugeyes are being caught on the flats and in the spillway. Work the points with green/pumpkinseed worms to catch bass.
Rush Run Lake:
Anglers continue to catch the rainbow trout stocked a couple of weeks ago. Use small spinners, jigs tipped with waxworms or Berkley trout baits.
Indian Lake:
Fishing activity has been at a minimum. A few saugeyes were caught recently off of the Lakeview boat ramp. Bass fishing has been spotty with decent results one day and nothing the next. Fish around docks to catch bluegills with waxworms or redworms.
Grand Lake St. Marys:
Despite the do-not-eat-fish advisory from the EPA, people have been fishing and catching bluegills and crappies, mostly around docks and wood. Use split-tail jigs or jigs tipped with waxworms. Anglers are still catching stocked rainbow trout from Davis Lake on the north edge of St. Marys.
Lake Erie:
Walleye fishing was best this past week around Kelleys Island and from Vermilion to Cedar Point. For perch, try the area off of Marblehead and on the east side of Kelleys.
