Speak Up for Oct. 26 - Re Leon Redbone: Absolute worst concert I’ve ever witnessed.

Re Leon Redbone: Absolute worst concert I've ever witnessed. About six goofy, inaudible mumbling ditties; no encore, seemingly drunken rambling between incoherent songs. So what if he was on "Saturday Night Live" or did a Bud commercial? The Kuss audience was patient and gave him the benefit of a doubt — but this guy stunk. Refunds, please?

Thank you for the front page coverage of the Highway Hikers motorcycle toy run. It's true the numbers were down, but still 1,300 toys (or more) given from 1,300 motorcycle enthusiasts is great. Too bad the local TV stations didn't cover this great event.

Thank you, Clark County Health Department, for a very organized H1N1 flu shot program for health care professionals. From friendly parking lot attendants to the professional nursing staff, the health care professionals in Clark County recognize you for a job well done.

Can someone explain why we need constitutional amendments to deal with veterans' bonuses, proper care of cows and chickens, and casinos in select cities, when we have a well-paid, if timid, legislature to deal with such issues? Vote no, and make our legislators step up and do the job for which we are paying them.

Gosh ... if it will "help the children and the schools," why not legalize prostitution, start selling and taxing marijuana, and bring dog fighting to the fairgrounds? After all people are going to "go someplace" and do that anyway. Because gambling is not good for society and neither are these other things.

It's great that Kenton Ridge can have a very long homecoming parade. But, for us folks who are not parents or related and are not told about it, Derr Road is closed. Also, it's just not fair to close Moorefield Road to the public for this time period. In our case, we were 45 minutes late for an important appointment.

I wish the woman with breast cancer and great insurance could open her eyes. No, people do not always get free health care. Pick up the phone and call a doctor to make an appointment. Tell them you have no insurance and no money to pay the bill. You might be referred to a free clinic that is busting at the seams, but I can tell you the doctor will not be available to see you. Where would you get the idea that the government would tell you what doctor to go to? That would be the insurance companies. They are the ones making a huge profit denying coverage to people.

OK, doctors and nurses, a nurse told the woman with breast cancer that everyone gets the care they need. Time to "Speak Up." True or not?

I am a breast cancer survivor and am praying for the lady who is battling breast cancer, but she is grossly misguided when it comes to health care reform. Every patient does get treatment, but they also still get a bill. I want every woman with breast cancer to be able to concentrate on getting well and not worry about bankrupting their family. And, if that means the "government in my business," so be it.

I waited three weeks in pain because of no insurance to finally go to the Community Hospital ER. They treated me with respect and kindness.

To the person who pays $100 dollars a month for their government-run health care (Medicare): My sister is 61 years old, and is in perfect health. She walks 5 miles a day and eats very healthy. Her cost for her health care is $650 a month. It pays nothing till she has paid $1,500 dollars out of pocket. Yes, your health care is practically free.
