We would like to thank the young military person who assisted my husband. We were having lunch in Fairborn when he choked on his food. The man immediately came to our aid. We failed to get his name.

The Arts Festival is a wonderful time and greatly appreciated, but instead of being concerned about alcohol being permitted, I am more concerned with security, because there are thieves stealing items from patrons' cars. It is a shame that these low-lifes can spoil such a good time.

Leonard Pitts, Jr.'s article on July 10 dealing with the "face of hate" and Mel Gibson's rant failed to mention the racial rant by the district leader of the Black Panthers in Philadelphia advocating killing "crackers" and their babies.

The person was right who wrote that if the Gulf Coast was Haiti, it would be getting all kinds of aid. What can the average American do to help?

Government spending: On the one hand President Obama has been spending money like the proverbial "drunken sailor" and on the other hand has appointed a commission to study fiscal responsibility. Go figure that one out.

I figure each Republican should receive 500 to 5,000 votes from family members, friends and business associates. Any votes beyond that will come from voters not paying attention to the all-out Republican obstructionism that keeps Washington and Columbus from working.
