Speak Up for Aug. 27 - Bravo to Schneider’s Florist!

I am a mother and I believe in all-day kindergarten, which helps children phase into school. First grade is the real deal and it's not fair to the rest of the class if a few children are holding the class back because of things that could have been addressed and taught in all-day kindergarten.

Sunday's column by John Rosemond claims preschools have kids watching 30 minutes of TV per day, "sitting" at computers and learning too early. This self-important and ill-informed "expert" should come to Springfield's preschools. My kids attended three of them and it couldn't have been more opposite. Forward-thinking people don't speak in absolutes. End his reign of parenting terror, please, and cut off Rosemond's column.

Bravo to Schneider's Florist! Keep up the good work, Bill Ardle. We support you wholeheartedly.

I can't decide if it's funny or scary that the owner of Schneider's Florist thinks his little signs can save the country.

It's about time that people speak up for truth. Those who love truth are not offended by the truth; they adore it. Those who hate truth do not like to be reminded of their false beliefs. We should speak the truth in love, not in hate. And we should support those businesses that stand for truth. Quit criticizing them.

Bill Ardle of Schneider's Florist needs to take the advice offered a couple hundred years ago, which is: "Two things never to be discussed are religion and politics." It was true then and is still true today. Using your sign to advertise your political views alienates half the population. It is his freedom of speech to do so, but those offended have the right to change florists.

It is still hot, so please offer your mail person a bottle of water or drink. They walk more than 10 miles a day.

So one in five teens have hearing problems? It's got to be the music. I think they also suffer from insomnia. Two of my granddaughters and a grandson stay up till the wee hours, then sleep all day.

When some of you at St. Raphael leave church, stop jaywalking! You are teaching kids to dart into or through traffic and to disregard the law. There is a traffic light with cross walks. Use it.
