Hunter orange, as a color, isn’t exactly fashionable.

But it will be prevalent this week as the state’s white-tailed deer gun season begins 30 minutes before sunrise today, Nov. 30. The season runs through Sunday, Dec. 6, then opens again Dec. 19 and 20.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, the state’s prehunting season population is 650,000 deer.

The state anticipates hunters will kill between 115,000 and 125,00 deer during the season, and approximately 420,000 hunters are expected to participate.

Hunters in Zone B (which includes Clark and Champaign counties) can harvest no more than four deer. Only one may be antlered.

Legal hunting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset.

All hunters need to wear a vest, coat, jacket, or coveralls in the hunter orange color (solid or camouflage).

According to the ODOW, hunters are encouraged to kill more does this season.

Hunters who donate their deer are not required to pay the processing cost as long as the deer are taken to a participating processor. Find a complete list at fhfh.org.
