Call it a paranormal State. Springfield’s historic State Theatre will be the sight for spirit hunting the next two Saturdays.
R.I. P. Ghost Tours and Ghost Hunting Source will present “Meet the Spirits of the Historic State Theatre,” a three-part crash course into the paranormal, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, May 9, and Saturday, May 16. Each event is limited to the first 20 registrants.
“We’ve had some very interesting experiences at the State,” said Darin Hough, Ghost Hunting Source owner. “We’ve gotten pictures, in the spirit box and more on recorders.”
The State opened in 1927 and was one of Springfield’s premiere movie cinemas before closing in 1990. It is now available for various events such as theater shows, weddings, banquets, proms and other functions.
The event will include paranormal investigation, 101 historical research and paranormal tech talk.
Then participants get to take their new skills into the field, so to speak, conducting their own paranormal investigation of the State with equipment provided by the Ghost Tours and Hunting Source.
The equipment used will included dowsing rods, trigger objects, EMF meters, EVP recorders, REM pods, laser grids, spirit boxes and night vision video recorders.
Hough, an experienced ghost hunter, will guide the investigation through the building. Evidence found in previous investigations at the State are available at www.ghosthuntingsource.com.
R.I.P. Ghost Tours is now a subsidiary of Ghost Hunting Source, the former of which used to be Spirit Expeditions out of Dayton.
Although no longer in its former location in Springfield’s Robertson Building, Ghost Hunting Source is still in operation Hough said. He’s currently looking for a new space to move to but has equipment and resources to help paranormal enthusiasts.
He’s looking at other possible future paranormal-themed events such as a walking tour of downtown Springfield, and in October will host and evening with horror film director Christopher St. Booth.
