“Clark State’s vision is to positively affect health care outcomes in Springfield and on the south side,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “A healthier Springfield equals a healthier workforce and healthier economy.”
Mercy Health invested about $300,000 on equipment and in construction and renovation costs to build out the medical practice space on the campus, said Nanette Bentley with Mercy Health.
The practice will serve as the primary medical care facility for Clark State students, faculty and the surrounding community. It will also likely be used for student clinical experiences and internships, according to Bentley.
The practice will also offer a full range of primary care services, prescriptions, immunizations, acute illness care and more.
Blondin said the clinic will help to serve those in the community who are, “underserved in terms of health care services.”

“Through Clark State’s community engagement in the Promise Neighborhood on the south side of Springfield, we also determined that the part of Springfield that we serve is underserved in terms of health care services,” Blondin said.
“Mercy Health — Springfield Primary Care at Clark State helps bridge the access gap, connecting students, faculty and the community around Clark State with fundamental health services at a location convenient for them,” said Lee Syphus, Chief Operating Officer of Mercy Health Physicians — Springfield.
