“This used to be an architectural office, and it’s quiet and serene,” Price said as she strolled through the graciously appointed space, aptly named La De Spa Wellness.
She called upon the knowledge and experience of registered dietitian Joan Wire; Jennifer Mercurio Leen, founder of Inward Success, a consulting company that designs health-related programs for individuals, schools and businesses; Stott Pilates-certified instructor Susan Horner; massage therapist Teri Crawford; and medical acupuncturist Dr. David Vukin. They essentially work as independent contractors within the spa, offering private and group consultations.
Beauty is more than skin-deep, as Wire points out, and “you are what you eat. What you take in literally becomes your body, your cells.”
She offers a holistic approach to achieving optimal health by focusing on nourishing the body, mind and soul. She said she wants to not only stress the nutritional aspect of healthy living, but also encourage exercise and the importance of practicing stillness every day.
The redemptive power of meditation is something Mercurio Leen knows well: She is a certified mind-body educator from the Chopra Center for Wellbeing in San Diego.
With stress, “we carry the weight of the world,” said Mercurio Leen, who for several years worked directly with Dr. Deepak Chopra, the author of several books on mind-body healing. She has taught meditation, yoga and health-related courses, and continues to be affiliated with the Chopra Center for Wellbeing at La Costa Resort and Spa.
Price’s career in beauty began more than two decades ago. A licensed cosmetologist since 1988, Price also was trained and licensed in paramedical aesthetics at Ohio State University. In 1999, she studied in Paris at the Biologique Recherche Institute of Beauty and was accredited in the Facial Remodeling method. She travels to Paris and New York City annually for advanced training and certification.
Price is one of 24 aesthetians nationwide trained in the Biologique Recherche skin care program. She also has clientele in Cinncinati and in the Buckhead area of Atlanta.
Remodeling Facial is a sculpting and lifting treatment for the face, according to Price, and it’s a noninvasive way to lift and tone the muscles in the face, using a machine with electrical currents.
“It’s like Pilates and yoga for the face.”
