Beer afficiandos of Springfield, hold on to your suds: Samuel Adams’ Utopias has arrived.

The rare beer, produced by American brewery Boston Beer Company, is among the company’s most premium offerings. They only produce the brew every two years and even then, the number of bottles is extremely limited. This year, 13,000 bottles have been produced and distributed nationwide. Those in the area looking to snag one of the bottles can find it at Wine Works, located at 1550 Commerce Road in Springfield. The store is one of four locations in Ohio that has it available.

Not every state has the opportunity to even carry the drink. The beer is 28 percent alcohol by volume, so it’s too potent to be legally sold in states like Alabama, the Carolinas, and Tennesee. The beer was also illegal in Ohio because state law didn’t allow alcoholic beverages above 12.5 percent ABV to be sold, but updated regulations released in August 2016 removed the cap. A representative of Wine Works said this is the second year they were able to procure the beer for sale.

The beer itself is special because of the unique blend of hops used in the brewing process, and it is then aged for several years. This year’s version was brewed for 24 years in different barrels, giving it a color and taste more similiar to a cognac.

If you want the opportunity to try it, you’ll have to be fast. The representative said one bottle is presently available in the store, though the store is attempting to get another one. Oh, and also: that one bottle will set you back about $200. We suggest you savor it this coming winter if you manage to claim it.
