Just in time for the Winter Olympics, the National Trail Parks and Recreation District Chiller Arena will be hosting a special kick-off for National Skating Month during their open house on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Would-be skaters can enjoy free beginner’s lessons, raffle prizes which include free classes, performances by local skaters and a special appearance by Chilly Bear. Admission to the event ranges from $4-$6 and skate rental costs $3. All ages are encouraged to attend.
The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra
Enjoy some of the classics of yesteryear as the Springfield Arts Council and the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra presents The Clown Princes on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the John Legend Theater. The show will start at 7:30 p.m.

Attendees will be able to enjoy three silent films with live music and sound effects performed by the orchestra. "One Week" starring Buster Keaton, "Get Out and Get Under" starring Harold Lloyd and "Easy Street" starring Charlie Chaplin are scheduled to be shown. All ages are encouraged to attend. Tickets for the event start at $22.50 and can be purchased through the SAC website or at the theater 90 minutes before showtime.
Mother’s Movie Night
Finding yourself in want of warmer temperatures? Mother’s Brewing Company might have something to tide you over.
The local brewery will be hosting a summer movie night on Saturday, Jan. 27 starting at 5 p.m. A screening of “The Endless Summer” will be followed by The Sunburners taking the Mother’s stage. Attendees are encouraged to wear summer attire to the event. The screening is free and open to the public.
