URBANA — If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, “Bad Art by Good People” can surprise when non-artists contribute works for a good cause.
Voting is underway for Champaign County Arts Council’s seventh annual fundraiser, with 14 local non-artists and one high-profile celebrity contributing works.
A dinner and art auction for the pieces will be 6-10 p.m. Friday, March 2 at the Arts Council, 119 Miami St. in Urbana.
Participating artists include: Beth Adair, chili cook-off chair; Dawn Allen, Arts Council president; Lin Giampetro, Sarica Manufacturing; Kraig Hissong, West Liberty-Salem Schools; Jamie Houseman, Mercy Health Urbana Hospital; Melinda Morrison, The Ohio State University Extension Office; Erin Patton, State Farm Insurance; Mark Runyan, Oakview Farm Meats and Hippie and the Farmer; Nicole Rush, St. Paris Public Library; Kristen Sanders, retired Arts Council director; Ellen Spinner, Gentle Care Health Center; Marcia Ward, retired educator and Greg Ward, Ward Construction; Dr. Christopher Washington, Urbana University; and Nancy Zerkle, The Peoples Savings Bank.
This year’s celebrity contributor is former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, who led the team to the 2002 national championship.
Works include paintings, drawings, woodwork and other categories.
Votes cost $1 each and can be done through PayPal on the Champaign County Arts Council website or by cash, check or credit card at the Arts Council office, which is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
Voting will close at 5 p.m. March 2. A limited number of tickets are available for the dinner and auction event that day.
Those tickets cost $25 each and include dinner and dessert and are available at the arts council office or online. The art will be auctioned after the meal.
Funds raised go toward various Champaign County Arts Council projects.
