Contests and more at Fairborn Sweet Corn Fest

You can take a bite out of summer on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16, when the Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival returns for its 28th year.

An estimated 60,000-70,000 people are expected to attend the festival at Community Park, said Lori Sue Luckner, event chairwoman.

Two corn-eating contests will take place during the weekend. Local residents will chomp it out at 1 p.m. Saturday, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base employees will battle Fairborn city employees at 1 p.m. Sunday.

About 160-170 booths of handmade arts and crafts and food will be set up on the grounds.

Besides the food du jour, pork chop sandwiches, fresh-cut watermelon and barbecue chicken are the biggest sellers for vendors, Luckner said. Hot dogs, hamburgers, cream puffs and sausage and steak sandwiches also will be for sale.

After all that food, children can unleash their energy in the Big Bounce or relax on a train or pony ride. Heater the Dayton Dragons mascot will be working the crowds from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Popular entertainers include the 5 Point Cloggers and the variety show Spot Lite Kids.

Parking and admission are free.
