Art takes on many forms. Art Affair on the Square, since its inception a decade ago, has embraced art in several shapes.
The 10th annual Art Affair on the Square includes traditional art as well as performing, literary and even architectural forms.
More than 50 artists will display their works 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday on Monument Square and North Main Street in Urbana. The event is sponsored by the nonprofit Monument Square District Inc.
Event co-chair LouAnn Shafer said hard work and great volunteers have made Art Affair on the Square an annual mid-summer event that draws 2,000-4,000 people. “It’s free, and there are lots of things to do for all ages.”
Artists from the area and out of state will display and sell everything from paintings, metal works, jewelry, paintings, pottery and more.
Urbana native Scott Kirby is one of the multitalented artists in the spotlight. The painter-composer-jazz artist was chosen event featured artist this year.
Shafer said a highlight this year is a showcase of all the featured artists from all 10 Art Affair on the Square events.
Live performances from the Champaign County Youth Choir, dancers and dulcimer players will be among the featured acts. Six local authors will represent literary arts, also with works for sale.
Architectural tours of noteworthy Urbana buildings and homes will also run throughout the day, and special children’s activities will focus on famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
